Dalton McGuinty has provided no policies or funding for a gangs and guns strategy outside of Toronto despite warnings from the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and several municipal police chiefs that Toronto gangs are spreading out to other areas of the province.
Under Dalton McGuinty, confidence in Ontario’s justice system has been eroded. Dalton McGuinty has been dragging his feet in appointing much needed Justices of the Peace and, as courts are cancelled for lack of Justices of the Peace, municipalities are losing millions of dollars in revenue each week from uncollected Provincial Offence Revenues.
Dalton McGuinty has added insult to injury in allocating only $49 million to be spread out over three years for compensation to victims of crime, especially after the Ombudsman revealed the government has been knowingly trying to delay or reduce victims’ compensation.
Only after the number of people turned away from Legal Aid increased by 42 per cent over two years did Dalton McGuinty acknowledge the need to invest more money into Legal Aid Ontario.
